Framing in a humid climate: what UAE homes need

Paper is hygroscopic — it takes on and gives off moisture with the air around it. In a climate that swings between air-conditioned interiors and outdoor humidity, that movement is constant, and framing has to allow for it.

The most common failure we see is artwork stuck flat against the glazing. Trapped moisture between paper and glass encourages the two to bond, and separating them later usually damages the surface. A mat or spacer that holds the piece off the glass prevents this entirely.

Backing matters as much as the front. Acid-free foamcore rather than standard cardboard keeps the reverse of the artwork from browning along the edges over a few years.

Placement is the free improvement: keep framed work off exterior walls where condensation collects, and out of direct sun regardless of glazing.
